The Lebanese National Pact of 1943
			• July 1941: Free French defeat Vichy in Syria and Lebanon • Britain had DeGaulle agree to independence, which he tried to take back, but elections showing support for an independent government were finally held in 1943. • The Lebanese National Pact came into force in 1943 with a 6:5 ratio favoring Christians in representation based on the 1932 census. • The French really did not want to leave this area. • No new agreement was negotiated until the 1990 Taif Accord signed in Saudi Arabia
